Deadlines to watch:

1. Oregon Department of Education grant closes September 30th.  Who is eligible to apply?  Teams that are connected to an Oregon public school or 501c3.  All financial awards will be announced by October 15th.
2.  FIRST Washington grant is open.  Who needs to apply for this grant?  Any team in the PNW District that does not want to pay the full $11,000 for team dues for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.  October 3rd is the deadline and there are no extensions.   Please plan to have it submitted well in advance.
3. The FIRST Tech Federal Credit Union: diversity, equity and inclusion grant is available for the 2019-2020 season.  Read the instructions on the website for how your team can qualify for $1,000 for your team!  

Maker Faire

 ORTOP will return to Maker Faire in September and we hope your team will join us!  We are still looking for a few teams who would like to participate in our booth.  The Maker Faire is September 7-8th and will be held @ OMSI.

Girl's Gen

 Registration is open for teams to register for our October 5th, 2019!  We can accommodate 24 teams and there are a limited number of $100 grants available.  New this year!  There will be five judged awards at this event:  Innovation and Control, Industrial Design, Quality, Team Spirit and Gracious Professionalism.

LEAP Results Important Dates LEAP Results FIRST Robotics Teams do more than just build robots. In an intense week-long competition, PNW FRC teams designed and presented ideas to create a new vision for OMSI and the Center For Innovation in order to attract and educate teens in STEM. The LEAP (Linking Engineering and Philanthropy) competition was organized by Team 1540, hosted by OMSI, and prizes provided by Autodesk. FRC Team 4488 Shockwave from Glencoe High School, in Hillsboro, was awarded the 1st place prize and $4000. Their winning proposal was entitled Escape Hall and was a multi-part escape room with the theme of Engineering Through Time . Team 4488 detailed the concept and designed a series of challenges for each of the rooms that combines the fun of team challenges while advancing STEM concepts and how they have progressed through time. We hope you are enjoying your sunshine!  You may be adjusting to a new way of doing school now that Kate Brown has closed schools for the remainder of the school year.  While our society adjusts and limits how we can interact with one another, we hope your team is still finding ways to stay well, connect with your team and communities to support them during this pandemic.   Evaluation Report   ORTOP completed an evaluation report to measure the ways FIRST impacts our youth participants.  We are committed to continuing this work into the future.  Teams are encouraged to use this tool in your work, both to prove the impact of the program and to suggest ways ORTOP can improve our approach.  Stay Connected with us!   All our lives have changed quite drastically over the past month!  As we all practice social distancing, we want to find a way to stay connected with each other.
