Fall Events
September -- LEAP -- Linking Engineering and Philanthropy has evolved next year into a parallel track along with BunnyBots as a way to get new students involved with engineering (and their teams) in the fall. Last year it was a one-week thing, this coming year it
will run about the same timeframe as BunnyBots kicking off in September with a discussion with a non-profit about a need they have. Team’s will then have until mid December to work on their solutions which they’ll present in both “science fair” style tri-fold
table discussions and a Shark Tank style pitch to the judges. We’re excited to announce that the non-profit next fall is MercyCorps who will be deeply involved in laying out the problem they’d like our help with and supplying judges. Learn about the work
they do at www.mercycorps.org. They’ll be hosting the final event at their headquarters in Portland. Once again Autodesk has stepped forward to support the event with $7,000 in prize money and engineering
judges. We’ve found doing this kind of Community Engineering is a big draw for students who might not otherwise be interested in competitive robotics, at least at the start. We wanted to announce it early so it could be incorporated into team's recruiting
efforts. Exact dates to follow but there will be a session at FIRSTfare. www.team1540.org/leap
September 15-16th -- OMSI Maker Faire -- If your team is interested in participating in our FIRST exhibit featuring all 4 programs please email debbie-kerr@ortop.org
October 6th -- Girls Generation -- Application will follow in the next few weeks and we will have scholarships to offer teams.
October 20th -- FIRST Fair -- Schedule to be posted late June/early July @ www.ortop.org
December 22nd -- BunnyBots -- As usual, the game rules will be announced Sept 1st. www.team1540.org/bunnybots
January 5th, 2019 -- FRC Kickoff -- Details to come
