Grant deadlines and other Fall reminders
Grant Deadlines
Fall Events
Is your team looking for funding for this season? Don't forget to apply for these three grants.
1. FIRST Washington Grant -- This is how to gain access to our Oregon fundraising. Since we have moved to a district model no team has had to pay more than $5,000 to play. As Steve can attest, some of our teams pay nothing at all, in fact, we send them a check. This one is due first, Sept. 27th
2. Oregon Department of Education -- This grant has the most flexibility. It can be used for: registration, travel and/or materials. We still have funds available. If you are affiliated to a public school I would strongly encourage you to write for this grant. Deadline Sept. 30th
3. Diversity Learning & Discussion Grant -- This one is sponsored by FIRST Tech Federal Credit Union and is worth $1,000. You will need one of your main coaches to complete the three training modules. They do not need to be completed all in one sitting. Expect each one to take 45-60 minutes. Whomever is completing the training for your team does need to email me to get registered. Space is limited but I still have 10 slots available as of today. Oct. 20th is the deadline for completing the modules.

2. LEAP is in it’s third season, once again underwritten by our dear friends at Autodesk and this year in partnership with Mercy Corps. Teams of students will use their engineering and design thinking skills to work on the critical issue of food production and availability in developing countries. Go to www.team1540.org/leap and register. More information will be available during the GoTo Meeting on September 27th. Mercy Corps will be doing live webcasts with info and Q&A as well as a Q&A at FIRST Fair Oct. 20th. For now register so you’ll get those updates. There’s some serious prize money attached to LEAP thanks to Autodesk! The final presentations of team solutions will be mid December.
3. Girls Gen is still accepting teams. Our event will be taking place at Wilsonville High School this year. We look forward to seeing you and your team on Oct. 6th!
4. FIRST Fair will take place at Gladstone High School on October 20th. This year's schedule will be posted next week. DW Fritz has four CAD workstations and 1 laptop to donate to teams. If you are interested please let me know. We can distribute these to teams at FIRST Fair Oct. 20th.
5. BunnyBots is celebrating it’s 10th season with Pack ‘Em Up, a whimsical game using 30 of last year’s crates, 240 racket balls and, of course, bunnies. There are only four slots remaining in BunnyBots. If you intend to compete, register your team and check out the rules at www.team1540.org/bunnybots. It’s the perfect way to get new members up to speed and for veteran members to learn something new.
6. Autodesk is interested in supporting teams not in the Portland Metro area with training. If your team is located in the Southern/Central part of the state please fill out this form to share the types of workshops or events your team may be interested in attending.

For
students, this is a great way to add something impressive to your
resume if you are interested in applying for the paid high school
internship at Autodesk next summer all while meeting new FIRST students!
