We have six new Rookie teams in Oregon this season and are looking for veteran teams who are willing to mentor.  Here are where our teams are located.  If you want to be their mentor please contact me and I will connect you to their team.  Thank you in advance!

Volunteer Opportunities 

Greetings FIRST LEGO League Oregon Volunteers,

As I am sure you are aware, the FIRST LEGO League Qualifying Tournaments begin this weekend and run the next two weekends across the state. All of the tournaments are looking for additional volunteers to facilitate these celebrations of success for the kids who have worked so hard on this year's HYDRO DYNAMICS challenge. 

In addition to hoping you can join us at your local event, I would like to ask you to bring a friend to discover the fun that is volunteering at a FIRST LEGO League event. While we are specifically talking about the human use of water this year. Now is a great time to bring in any space enthusiasts for next year's INTO ORBIT challenge.

To make volunteering as easy as possible I have included the links to volunteer at each event and day below. If the links do not work (sometimes they don't). Please use this handy walkthrough to find them in the FIRST system on your own.

LEAP Results Important Dates LEAP Results FIRST Robotics Teams do more than just build robots. In an intense week-long competition, PNW FRC teams designed and presented ideas to create a new vision for OMSI and the Center For Innovation in order to attract and educate teens in STEM. The LEAP (Linking Engineering and Philanthropy) competition was organized by Team 1540, hosted by OMSI, and prizes provided by Autodesk. FRC Team 4488 Shockwave from Glencoe High School, in Hillsboro, was awarded the 1st place prize and $4000. Their winning proposal was entitled Escape Hall and was a multi-part escape room with the theme of Engineering Through Time . Team 4488 detailed the concept and designed a series of challenges for each of the rooms that combines the fun of team challenges while advancing STEM concepts and how they have progressed through time. We hope you are enjoying your sunshine!  You may be adjusting to a new way of doing school now that Kate Brown has closed schools for the remainder of the school year.  While our society adjusts and limits how we can interact with one another, we hope your team is still finding ways to stay well, connect with your team and communities to support them during this pandemic.   Evaluation Report   ORTOP completed an evaluation report to measure the ways FIRST impacts our youth participants.  We are committed to continuing this work into the future.  Teams are encouraged to use this tool in your work, both to prove the impact of the program and to suggest ways ORTOP can improve our approach.  Stay Connected with us!   All our lives have changed quite drastically over the past month!  As we all practice social distancing, we want to find a way to stay connected with each other.
